>>> Stuttgart host Bayern in 2025 Supercup on 16 August!
The Supercup previously existed between 1987 and 1996, but was organised by the DFB (German FA). It was then replaced by the Ligapokal (League Cup) until the DFL re-introduced the Supercup in 2010.
Ahead of the 2025 edition, it was renamed the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup in memory of the German football great, who died in January 2024, aged 78.
The premise of the one-off match is to pit the Bundesliga champions against the DFB Cup holders from the previous season, making it one of the hardest competitions to qualify for.
In the case that a team wins the domestic double, the Bundesliga runners-up are traditionally invited to take part.
