Schwartz was appointed in late March, but the task of steering the club to safety proved a daunting one for the former Karslruhe and Nuremburg coach, despite overseeing some creditable performances, such as a dramatic and hard-fought 3-3 draw away at promotion chasers Hannover on Matchday 32.
